Become a Chair

Ad 2 DC invites you to get in and stand out in the local advertising community by serving on the 2011-12 Steering Committee.

As a member of the Ad 2 DC Steering Committee, you will have the opportunity to build leadership experience, work with other enthusiastic individuals, and enhance your skills. If you are motivated, dedicated, and fun, this is for you!

We encourage you to nominate yourself or another Ad 2 DC member by emailing info@ad2dc.org. Below is a list of positions for which you can apply.

Ad 2 DC Executive CommitteeMust have at least one-year experience on the Ad 2 DC Steering Committee

Vice Chair assists the Chairman in the general operation of Ad 2 DC and shall assume all the responsibilities of the Chairman in his/her absence. The Vice Chair is a two year commitment, where he or she commits to and will assume the role of Chair in 2012-2013

Secretary is responsible for taking minutes at each Steering Committee meeting and to distribute minutes to the executive committee within one week of the meeting.

Ad 2 DC Committee Chairs

Membership - Out on the front lines at every event, the Membership Committee wants all members to see the value of their investment in Ad 2 DC. This committee gets the member base involved through activities and programs designed to enhance membership recruitment, retention, and involvement.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Creating a membership drive
  • Creating a membership campaign
  • Recruiting potential members
  • Retaining members

Public Service - The Public Service Committee selects a non-profit organization within the Washington, DC area and acts as its advertising agency from July 2011 till June 2012. Depending on the organization’s needs, the committee does a full campaign for the year and/or plans a list of projects ranging from creative/design to media planning and public relations.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Graphic design
  • Copywriting
  • Media planning
  • Marketing
  • Public relations
  • Account service

Communications - The Communications Committee develops communication efforts for updating and keeping in touch with prospects, members, students, and the local community. Stay in touch with the industry by helping us provide the latest local news with regular email updates and monthly meeting invitations!

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Design of collateral materials (ads, email blasts, etc.)
  • Newsletter (asset gathering, copywriting, editing, prep and delivery)
  • Ad 2 DC blog (updating and maintenance)
  • Copywriting (assistance to other committees, ads, etc.)

Social Media - The Social Media Committee responsibilities include maintaining and enhancing the image and awareness of Ad 2 DC membership, events, and initiatives via social media networks.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Writing press releases for events, programs and other Ad 2 news
  • Maintaining Ad 2 DC social networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn Group, etc.)
  • Providing promotional support to socials and programs committees
  • Supporting the Communications Committee on blog and newsletter updating
  • Utilizing media vehicles and grassroots efforts to create awareness of Ad 2 DC
  • Assisting public service committee

Education - Graduating students are one of the best candidates for future Ad 2 DC members. This committee visits college campuses to educate students about the benefits of Ad 2 DC and maintain relationships with university department chairs and professors.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting site visits to area campuses to speak to recruit potential members
  • Maintaining contact with department chairs and professors
  • Planning workshops to support students with job placement
  • Promoting the Student ADDY Awards

Programs - Informative, entertaining programs are at the heart of Ad 2 DC’s dedication to its members. The Programs Committee does everything from acquiring speakers to managing the venue to assisting with check-in services.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Planning at least 4 programs throughout the year
  • Brainstorming interesting topics
  • Recruiting speakers
  • Securing venues
  • Working with the communications committee on deliverables

Sponsorship - Ad 2 DC thrives on the support of sponsors to grow. Through sponsorships, Ad 2 DC has the ability to generate membership materials, conduct fundraisers, and donate a marketing campaign each year a local non-profit organization. Event sponsors allow Ad 2 DC to provide members with low-cost and free opportunities to attend networking and educational programs by donating venues food/beverages, printing and prizes.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Developing a sponsorship campaign, including collateral
  • Identifying and soliciting sponsors to support overall or committee needs
  • Maintaining contact list of sponsors

Socials - The Socials Committee puts on quality programming that fosters actively interested membership, well-attended meetings and membership growth, and helps to raise money for the club and our Public Service recipient. Oh, who are we kidding? This committee is all about the fun! When the Socials Committee puts together an event, you can count on networking in a casual, fun, and relaxed environment!

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Event planning
  • Budget maintenance
  • Sponsorships
  • Working with the Communications Committee on deliverables

Government Relations - Projects and programs designed to build effective relations with local, state and national governments are what Government Relations is all about. By monitoring legislative activity that affects the advertising industry, relationships are developed to initiate favorable legislation, contribute to the defeat of adverse legislation, educate lawmakers and promote industry self-regulation.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Keep our membership up-to-date on issues affecting our agencies
  • Create useful links for the Ad 2 DC website and newsletter

Diversity - Through programs and other educational venues, the Diversity Committee is devoted to promoting awareness within the advertising community on the best ways of reaching and targeting diverse groups. This committee also conducts programs that educate and motivate multicultural students to pursue careers in advertising and builds business relationships with media outlets and multicultural suppliers and vendors.

Committee Responsibilities include:

  • Multicultural programs
  • Diversity education workshops
